Operator Source 22 May 2012UPC HungaryUPC Hungary was formed in July 1998 by the merger of the two leading cable companies, Kábelkom and Kábeltel. In July 2005, UPC was acquired by Liberty Global. UPC is the largest cable operator in Hungary claiming a 32.4 per cent share of the wired broadcasting market (Q111). In addition, the company is the leading operator regardless of technology with a 29 per cent market share (Q111). In the end of November 2011, UPC Hungary was the second largest fixed broadband internet provider in Hungary with a 20.9 per cent market share. Through its cable network, UPC provides services in more than 90 communities including the capital city of Budapest and the largest towns and their surrounding areas. In Q409, UPC Hungary launched its ultra high-speed broadband Internet services using Euro DOCSIS 3.0 technology which allows customers to benefit from Internet speeds of up to 120 Mbps. The service covers 93 per cent of UPC Hungary’s two-way homes passed. In addition to its residential and business standalone Internet services ranging in speeds from 10 Mbps to 120 Mbps the operator also provides a wide selection of bundled services combining Internet, television and fixed telephony.
