UPC Hungary was formed in July 1998 by the merger of the two leading cable companies, Kábelkom and Kábeltel. In July 2005, UPC was acquired by Liberty Global. UPC Hungary is the largest broadband cable operator in Hungary with 34 per cent market share and is the second largest ISP with 24 per cent of the broadband Internet market.
Through its cable network, UPC provides services in more than 90 communities including the capital city of Budapest and the largest towns and their surrounding areas. 96 per cent of UPC Hungary’s networks are modern, two-way, broadband HFC cable networks providing triple play services. Over 60 per cent of its video cable subscribers are served by a network with a bandwidth of at least 750 Mhz. In Q409, UPC Hungary launched its ultra high-speed broadband Internet services using Euro DOCSIS 3.0 technology. The new speeds range from 2 Mbps to 120 Mbps.
