Usen Corp. is the leading domestic cable broadcasting company in Japan. It was established in 1964 with the original aim of providing broadcasting services, but the company later expanded into other areas including retail, Internet and broadband services. Usen operates its broadband services via its subsidary, U's Communication (UCOM) and U's ISP, established in July 2000.
On 1 February 2007, the operator announced the launch of its 'Go Plus' service for its 'GyaO' subscribers in Japan. In Q107, the operator launched its new business service, 'Broad-Gate 02 Optical Transit Access', with speeds of up to 100 Mbps. On 19 April 2007, Goldman Sachs announced the acquisition of an 18.1 per cent stake in Usen, becoming Usen's second largest shareholder after Mr. Yasuhide Uno, who holds a 44.5 per cent stake.
