Operator Source 5 Mar 2012UTV InternetUTV Internet is part of UTV Media plc, a broadcasting and new media company based in Belfast, Northern Ireland and listed on the LSE and ISEQ. UTV was formed in 1958 after the appointment by the Independent Television Authority as Programme Contractor for Northern Ireland. The company was incorporated as Ulster Television plc in 1959, but this was changed to UTV plc in June 2006. In late 2007 a further change reorganised the group into a holding company, UTV Media plc. A number of operating subsidiaries were also formed, including the existing UTV plc, whose main operation is the ITV franchise for Northern Ireland, as well as UTV Radio and UTV Internet. UTV Internet arose out of the March 2000 purchase and re-branding of Direct Net Access, one of Northern Ireland’s first consumer-focused ISPs. As a mainly bit stream operator, UTV Internet has little or no last mile infrastructure of its own. It provides a number of broadband and voice options for residential and business customers, as well as services including web design, web hosting, and domain registration. Services are available in both Northern and the Republic of Ireland. Although UTV does not market itself to consumers outside Ireland, services are also available in Great Britain.
