20 Mar 2012Virgin Media

Virgin Media was launched in Q1 2007 as the new name and brand for the telecoms and media group created by the merger between NTL:Telewest, VirginNet and Virgin Mobile (bought by NTL in 2006).

The company provides business and residential cable, DSL, and TV, as well as fixed and mobile telephony. Virgin Media is making use of its advantage as an integrated supplier of a complete range of telecoms and media services to offer a wide range of bundles including broadband and other telecoms services.

On 15 December 2008, Virgin Media launched a high speed broadband service in its residential segment. The Docsis 3.0 service, running up to 50 Mbps, provides the operator with a major competitive advantage. The service is now widely available in the UK market.

Virgin Media also launched a customer pilot deploying a 200 Mbps broadband service in May 2009. The operator finally launched its 100 Mbps service in the first quarter of 2011.
