In December 1995, after receiving a mobile licence in 1994, Omnitel was launched as an alternative to the incumbent of telecommunications market in Italy. In 2000, Omnitel became a part of Vodafone Group and on 12 May 2003, it was rebranded as Vodafone Italy. The company is 76.86 and 23.14 per cent owned by Vodafone Group and Verizon Group respectively.

Vodafone Italy provides mobile/ fixed telephony, Internet and TV services to residential and business customers. In addition to their standalone services, Vodafone Italy provides a wide range of bundled services: double-play, combining broadband internet and fixed telephony, and triple-play, combining internet, landline telephony and TV. In 2010, Vodafone Italy continued to invest in the development of new technologies including LTE and FTTH. In Q311 it was awarded LTE licence.
