Vodafone UK
Vodafone is one of the original mobile telephone operators in the UK, founded in 1985. It has grown into a major international player, offering fixed and mobile telephony in 27 countries including many European countries and emerging markets, and the United States. The operator also offers 3G broadband services to its mobile telephony customers. Its fixed broadband offering in the UK is positioned as an additional service to its mobile customers rather than a stand-alone service competing in the market as a whole.
In October 2007 Vodafone showed its international commitment to providing fixed broadband services, as part of a complete telecomms solution, by acquiring the Italian and Spanish businesses of Tele2. These bring with them 400,000 broadband customers in Italy and 240,000 in Spain.
In 2006, Vodafone partnered with British Telecom (BT) to offer fixed line broadband services in the UK over BT's network. It launched ' Vodafone at Home' residential broadband service with speed up to 8 Mbps in January 2007.
