Vodafone is one of the original mobile telephone operators in the UK, founded in 1985. It has grown into a major international player, offering fixed and mobile telephony in 27 countries including many European countries and emerging markets, and the United States. The operator also offers 3G broadband services to its mobile telephony customers. Its fixed broadband offering in the UK is positioned as an additional service to its mobile customers rather than a stand-alone service competing in the market as a whole.

In 2006, Vodafone partnered with British Telecom (BT) to offer fixed line broadband services in the UK over BT's network. It launched its 'Vodafone at Home' residential broadband service with speed up to 8 Mbps in January 2007.
