BroadBand User Service - UKPlus Smallworld
Smallworld Media, formerly WightCable North, is one of the two small, independent cable companies in the UK, where cable is otherwise monopolised by Virgin Media. It operates cable networks in the South West of Scotland, serving Irvine, Troon, and Kilmarnock, and in the North West of England serving Carlisle, Lancaster and Morecambe. It offers broadband, telephony and multi-choice TV services to its residential and business customers. WightCable North was formerly known as OMNE Communications and was taken over by CLS Holdings in 2003. In January 2006, CLS Holdings sold off its share in Wightcable North to Smallworld Group owned by Netfonics Ltd. Subsequently, on 15 March 2007, the company rebranded itself to Smallworld Media. Smallworld's business and residential services are operated separately with distinctive positioning. The smallworldmedia.com site presents the cable-based consumer services, while itsasmallworld.co.uk offers business services. By the second quarter of 2010, the operator positioned itself as a residential market service provider and ceased to offer its business products. Late in 2007, Smallworld Media began using local-loop unbundling (LLU) and ADSL2+ technology to extend its coverage area by providing telephone and DSL broadband services at up to 10 Mbps download speed. The first step was to extend the coverage area to include the whole of Irvine and Kilmarnock.
