Founded in 1997, Wind Telecomunicazioni SpA offers integrated fixed, mobile and Internet services. In February 2001, Wind became the first alternative operator of fixed-line telephony in Italy to provide access to local loop unbundling.

In October 2005, Wind launched its ADSL2+ access network and in 2006 expanded its convergent fixed-Internet product. With this expansion Wind was able to offer bundled domestic calls and services with speeds up to 20 Mbps as of Q108. A nationwide IPTV service was first introduced in December 2007.

In November 2010, Russia's VimpelCom Ltd acquired Wind Telecomunicazioni.
