Windstream Communications is a company formed as a result of a merger between Alltel’s wireline business and Valor telecom in July 2006. The company offers a range of broadband services, digital TV, phone and other bundled services.

In 2008, Windstream sold off its wireless operations in North Carolina to AT&T for USD 60 million in an all cash deal. The transaction included the transfer of Windstream's wireless customers, spectrum licences and cell sites covering four counties in the region.

On 1 December 2011, Windstream completed the acquisition of PAETEC Holding Corp. in a transaction valued at approximately USD 2.3 billion. The deal will enhance the company’s existing business division by expanding the product portfolio of business services.
