This free report shows how the average cost per megabit for business and residential broadband services has changed over time. The report looks at changes in copper, cable and fibre services between Q2 2010 and Q1 2015.

Residential broadband tariffs over time

The average cost per megabit of residential broadband continues to fall for services delivered over cable and fibre networks. Services delivered over copper networks follow a more erratic path and have actually risen in the last two quarters. More importantly, copper broadband services have been appreciably and consistently higher than the cable and fibre equivalents over the last five years. Copper broadband services tend to be an their costliest where there is no competition from other networks in the market.

Business broadband tariffs over time

The average cost per megabit of business broadband has decreased significantly for services delivered across copper, cable and fibre networks over the last five years. As is the case with residential services, the average cost per megabit prices for fibre and cable are more closely matched at comfortably under US$5 while the average price for copper broadband services is much higher at US$18.25 in Q1 2015.
