The Japanese fixed broadband market grew by 1.45% in 2013, below the growth rates for all global regions. Relatively high market penetration in Japan means that future growth potential will be limited.
NTT East and NTT West accounted for 54.3% of the Japanese fixed broadband market at the end of 2013. Jupiter Telecommunications and Yahoo both had significant footholds in the market with shares of 5.9% and 5.4% respectively. A large portion of the market (34.4%) was comprised of smaller operators with individual shares of less than 5%.
